OVER 5 MILLION TONNES OF ASBESTOS WAS IMPORTED TO THE UK BEFORE IT WAS COMPLETELY BANNED IN 1999

At its peak, over 170,000 tonnes of asbestos was being imported to the UK from countries such as Canada, Brazil, Swaziland and China.
To put into context, 5 million tonnes of asbestos is enough for every person living in the UK (all 66 million of them) to have 75kg of asbestos each!

THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION ESTIMATE THAT APPROXIMATELY 107,000 PEOPLE DIE EACH YEAR AS A RESULT OF ASBESTOS EXPOSURE

Exposure to asbestos fibres can lead to asbestos related diseases such as Mesothelioma, Lung Cancer, Asbestosis and Pleural Plaques.
The HSE estimates that approximately 5000 people in the UK die each year from asbestos related illnesses.
Around 20 tradesmen die each week due to asbestos exposure in the UK.
